These VR simulators are saving the army a lot of money.
The virtual reality simulators give soldiers the opportunity to practice basic team building skills before they go onto a live fire range or on deployment.
“If the mistake is made here, the action is corrected and the soldier is taught and trained to make sure that he doesn’t make that mistake again. Then they’re clearly less likely to make the same mistake once they go out and conduct actual training.” Lt. Col. Roger Miranda said.
The simulators can also take soldiers on the road through any terrain and on a raid through urban environments.
Many leaders said this kind of training helps new soldiers get a feel for the equipment before the get hands on the real thing.
It also allows soldiers to learn how to work together as a team.
The VR training is cost effective it can simulate almost any environment imaginable without the time or travel cost it would take to move soldiers from one location to another.
“They can do multiple iterations of either the same scenario or a different scenario. We can easily switch them from a desert environment to an urban environment with the flick of a switch,” Miranda said.
Training in this virtual world helps get soldiers well-prepared for real-life missions.
